Liturgical Roles/Ministries

We invite you to consider serving in one or more of the following ministries

Sacristans

Sacristans set up and supervise the regular replenishment of materials like wine, bread, candles, palms, and others. Although they manage the inventory the procurement is done through the parish office.

Eucharistic Ministers

The priest is considered the ordinary minister of the Eucharist. The laity participates in this ministry as extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, assisting the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion. This ministry is open to practicing Catholics who have made their Confirmation.

Lectors/Readers

Lectors serve at Mass by proclaiming the sacred scripture during the Liturgy of the Word. It is the role of the lector to read the 1st and 2nd readings and the intercessions. Also we welcome youth to participate in this ministry.

Altar Servers

Altar servers have the privilege of assisting the priest in the sanctuary during the Mass and other liturgical functions. This ministry is open to youth who have made his/her First Holy Communion.

Greeters

A Greeter role is the first point of contact for parishioners, guests and first-time attendees. Everyone must feel welcome. Greeters need to be able to assist and to direct other parishioners. It’s an important team! In addition, they pass out the weekly bulletin at the end of Mass.

Ushers/Collectors

They are responsible for the collection of the offering. This role is also to assist anyone requiring help getting to their seat. The role is open to all parishioners.

Art & Environment

They are the creators of the beautiful decorations that adorns our worship sites to reflect our liturgical seasons.

Music Ministry

Our purpose is to lead the congregation in prayer, through music, with the hope our music deepens our parishioners’ conversation with God. God invites us to sing. There are hundreds of references of singing within the Bible. Songs can give us theology. As you may know, hymns and other Christian songs are full of rich, theological text. Music has a way of piercing into the deep parts of our soul, that assists in our expression and response to God and to the church.

St. Augustine of Hippo said “when you sing you pray twice.”

St. Rose of Lima Worship Site

The music ministry is small group of talented musicians lead by Trish Gallagher, Music Director of St. Rose Worship Site.  The other members include Kris Le, Reniel Hernandez, Emmie Savoie, and Anna Do.  Their music is in perfect harmony with Trish, who is a gifted soloist & organist.  On special  occasions  students of Trish, who are members and graduates of Saint John High School Choir, accompany the St. Rose Music Ministry through their singing and playing musical instruments.

St. Matthew’s Worship Site

The music ministry is an adult choir lead by Mary Rose Daigle, Music Director of St. Matthews Worship Site. New members are always welcome to join including children. Mary Rose leads the singing which is  accompanied by her piano, sometimes the guitar, and for a real treat the fiddle. The choir sings original and unique music, some written by Mary Rose.  Choir practices happen after Sunday Mass with lots of notice. Heading into Christmas and Easter, there may be a scheduled weeknight practice.
